As an ecumenical Christian housing ministry, Paterson Habitat  is founded upon the principle that people of all faiths should be provided an opportunity to live in a decent and affordable home.  We welcome people of all backgrounds, races and religions to build houses together in partnership with families in need.  From these partnerships, a network of lasting friendships and a sense of community is created. Here are several ways to volunteer:

Hands-on

As a construction volunteer, you will have the opportunity to work in a variety of phases of construction – framing walls, installing insulation, hanging drywall, laying down hardwood floor and tiling, painting the interiors, putting up trim and doing finish work. We are looking for individuals with or without construction skills; however, all volunteers must be 16 or older.  Click here for more information. Other construction volunteer opportunities include:

  • Mission Build - Paterson Habitat visits the Gulf Coast several times a year to help in the rebuilding since Katrina.  Join us on our next trip or send volunteers to join us as we continue in our mission while encouraging your congregation to serve others.

  • Interfaith Build - One of our greatest prayers is to engage all Abrahamic faiths to serve others in need, together.  We are well on our way in forming and organizing this effort.  God has blessed us with many congregations who desire to do the same.  The ultimate goal is to build an Abraham House.  Click here for more information on Interfaith efforts. • Interfaith Build 2012: March 15, 16, 17 and November 8, 9, 10

  • Clergy or Group Build -  Join us for an arranged special build day on the construction site to see the work Paterson Habitat is doing in our communities.  The build will be followed by a lunch and presentation where we share stories and tell you all about Habitat for Humanity.

Become a prayer partner

Commit to praying for Habitat as a church, leadership team or small group.  Habitat can offer monthly or quarterly prayer sheets for your congregation or organization.

Introduce children to Habitat

Through our Annual Kids Kamp, Vacation Bible School curriculum and youth activities, children are taught how to help their neighbors in ways that are practical and meaningful to our younger generations.  A few more ways to introduce children to Habitat include: giving calendars, crafts and activities or visit Habitat for Humanity's youth program site for ideas for specific age groups.

Join a Committee

Paterson Habitat has a variety of committee opportunities that help in every aspect of our organization. Joining a committee is a great way to help your community while networking with local professionals and gaining valuable leadership skills. Click here for more information.

For more information on any of these opportunities or other ideas you may have, please contact Kerri Schaefer, Faith Relations Coordinator (973) 595-6868 or email faith@patersonhabitat.org
