Paterson Habitat for Humanity builds homes in partnership with qualifying partner families and the community, and then sells the homes at no profit with zero percent interest mortgages to partnering families. Paterson Habitat also prepares partner families to be successful homeowners. 

We subscribe to no religious, ethnic or racial requirements, priorities or preferences.  Paterson Habitat for Humanity approves families in accordance with all state & federal fair lending laws.

In order to qualify for a Paterson Habitat home, you must be a first-time home buyer and meet the following and other criteria:

Need

Priority is given to families living in either substandard, overcrowded housing conditions or have a severe rent burden.

Income requirements

Minimum annual income of $35,000 (maximum depends on family size). 

If your annual income is less than $35,000 you may still fill out an interest form.

Willing to partner

Accepted applicants must be willing to help build their home and the homes of their neighbors by providing 400 hours of "sweat equity" and complete several homeowner trainings.  They must be comfortable being identified as a Habitat family and to be seen as an asset to the community by maintaining the home and property in order to further the program for others.
