Singer/songwriter
Patti Scialfa (Springsteen) has helped raise the roof in
concert halls around the world with the famous E Street
Band, but on June 10th she and her
17-year-old daughter, Jessica Springsteen, were helping
raise the walls for Paterson Habitat's fourth Women
Build house.
Women Build houses are built by all-women volunteer
construction crews and our Women Build 2009 house was a
return engagement for both mother and daughter. Patti
and Jessica were active volunteers on our Women Build
house last year and supported Women Build 2009 as the
honorary co-chairs.
For
them, June 10th was an afternoon of hands-on
construction work highlighted by the raising of the
second floor wall frames. “Working together taps us into
the higher angels of our souls,” Patti told a group of
other Women Build volunteers during a brief wall-raising
ceremony. Many of the Women Build volunteers on hand
were veterans of past Women Build projects. So are our
two key corporate sponsors, the Lowe’s home improvement
stores and Bank of America.

Lowe’s has underwritten Habitat for Humanity
International's national Women Build program and Bank of
America stepped up for the second straight year as lead
corporate sponsor for Paterson Habitat’s Women Build
house. When the house is completed in the fall, it will
be a new home for Brenda Quinones and her three
daughters: Kaylah, 13, Tayah, 11, and Aaliyah, 7.
