It
what seems like a tradition in the making, our second
annual Hammering for Habitat
event was once again a combination of bad weather and
great response. Hammering for
Habitat combines wall-building with fund-raising
and hundreds of supporters turned out to do both on the
rainy Saturday morning of Oct. 27th.
At
these events, supporters (usually in teams) sponsor 2x4
boards at $250 each and then hammer them into wall units
for a Paterson Habitat home, complete with inscribed
messages to the homeowner family. Our donors/builders
raised thousands this year, led by the generosity of the
congregation at the Hawthorne
Ecumenical Council, who sponsored $3,000 worth of
boards.
Once
again the hammering was scheduled for the parking lot of
the Paterson Museum and once again rain drove the action
inside. The hammering noise didn’t bother Jean Douge
and his four-year-old son Jehu. Some of the wall units
hammered together that morning will go into the new home
Jean and his wife Elide (The Douge Family) are buying in
partnership with Paterson Habitat. Many thanks to all of
you who supported Hammering for
Habitat 2007 and to Hunter
Douglas, our corporate sponsor of the event.
